how can I put linux on a zip disk?

Q. I just want the bare bones essentials. A text terminal to work with. Has anyone done this before?

A. Try puppy Linux. I know you can put that on a bootable CD. It shouldn't be very different from putting it on a Zip.

How can I get latest Linux software in internet in zipped format? Is it possible ?
Q.

A. As jerry said almost everything distributed is compressed first. The distributed .iso have most of the information inside compressed except for the most vital parts. tar.gz is a compressed file. Both .deb and rpm compress almost everything inside them as well.

In addition most of the software should be available though whatever package manager your disto of choice uses.
